This is the first of many tunes that Desmond is working on. “Omalay” is the inspiration. Omalay, in some countries known as “ogogoro”, is a corn-based gin that is imbibed in Sierra Leone and other African Countries. There is a Swahili variation called “wargi”.

This was worked up in the Red Room one night in November. There was no Omalay, but there was other refreshment.
